Coronavirus Statement Updated – 02/11/2020
As per the Government announcement made on Saturday 31st October 2020, it is with great sadness that we announce that Matlock Farm Park will temporarily close its doors once more at the end of the day on Wednesday 4th November 2020.
Our number one priority has always been the safety of our staff, animals and customers. When our attraction re-opened to the public following the first lockdown on Sunday 5th July, this was after our team worked hard to implement guidance and procedures to manage the risk of COVID-19 and maximise safety for all. In doing this, we achieved the "Good to Go" safety mark. We would like to thank visitors for adhering to the precautions we have had in place.
In closing for a second temporary lockdown, we would like all of our visitors to be assured that our animals will continue to be safe and cared for as always. We have already started moving the vulnerable ones into our Ark building for winter and we are stocked with feed, hay and bedding for them. As before, we are sure that they will miss the public interaction and wonder where everyone has gone, but we will keep our followers up to date daily with posts and photos on our social media.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your amazing level of support since we re-opened in the Summer. Even though we have had to limit the park's facilities and activities, your visits have saved us and put us back on our feet. We can now enter this second lock down with the confidence that we can come out of the other side to a great following of loyal visitors.
Thank you again for your support. Keep yourself and your families safe!
We are looking forward to seeing you all very soon. Until then, did you know we sell a range of gift vouchers (*all vouchers valid for one year from purchase date), perfect to give to those you love this Christmas? We have a plethora of lovely animals to meet, feed and cuddle, an indoor play barn to have fun in, go-karts to ride around on, a shop to browse and a cosy café to visit. Our riding school is also open all year round and offers lessons or hacking for all abilities as well as short pony rides.
Animal Fun and Playtime, seven days a week!
Get up close to our lovely animals ...
Enjoy wandering the farm park, with clear signage and plenty of space to social distance, to meet and greet our wide range of friendly animals. From alpaca, ponies and llamas to Highland cattle, sheep and goats to name a few, there are lots of new friends to be made who love being petted. Grab a bag of animal feed and some will eat from the palm of your hand! Don't miss our gorgeous donkey foal and baby alpaca too.
Meerkats are fun to watch as they go about their day to day lives and of course, there are our staff supervised wallaby encounters at set times during the day, when there is the opportunity to enter their enclosure and experience these lovely animals and other friends up close.
Short children's pony rides are on at weekends and school holidays (£2.50 a go, from 2 and a half years - check times on arrival), to give your little one a lovely experience.
Whilst our indoor Rainforest playbarn remains closed at this time, due to government restrictions, there's plenty of outdoor fun to be had! There's our popular Tots play area, with boat themed play equipment; a large sandpit for sandy fun and sandcastle building; two other play areas; fun pedal tractors; a fabulous go-kart track (£1.00 a go) and Fergie, our real tractor for the kids to climb aboard.
Fun bungee trampolines and other entertainments will join us at weekends and school holidays too - check our What's On page.
Horseriding and Catering
We are delighted that our horse-riding is fully back up and running. Offering lessons for all abilities and any age (from 3 years up), there's nothing quite like being at one with your horse. Treks are also available to have a relaxing adventure through beautiful surrounding countryside and woodland. Want to find out more? Check out our riding page and call us for availability - pre-booking essential. Our Garden Room cafe and Rainforest coffee shop remain closed, however that doesn't stop us providing some hearty fare to keep you going during your visit! We have takeaway food and beverage outlets open, serving delicious food such as Hot Pork Cobs, Butcher's Burgers, Jacket Potatoes and freshly made sandwiches. We have plenty of outdoor tables to consume items bought on site, as well as a heated marquee available to use during inclement weather. Special dietary requirements catered for- please call before your visit so we can reduce your waiting time.
We also have a designated picnic area at the farm park.
Getting festive in the outdoors ....
This year we are delighted that the great man in red Santa Claus will be visiting us with Mrs Claus each weekend of 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20 December and on 21, 22 & 23 December ! Keeping things socially distanced in the outdoors, Santa and Mrs Claus will wander the farm park and chat with individual families about their latest Christmas news, handing out sweet treats for the children and Christmas letters for children to complete and post in our special North Pole post box outside their little farm park grotto. There will be a Christmas Treasure Hunt to take part in too, so children can solve the mystery and claim their little prize.
Christmas pony rides will take place on 5, 6, 12, 13, 20, 21, 22 & 23 December with our pony friends festively dressed, for children to enjoy a lovely experience (£2.50 per go).
During week days and each weekend, small animal handling sessions will return (YAY!) and of course there are all of our animal friends to visit and pet around the farm park - they'll be so excited to see everyone again!
