Catering Assistant

Permanent Part time, including some weekends and bank holidays Matlock (Two Dales)

As catering assistant your focus is to assist in all food outlets managed by Matlock Farm Park. You will ensure you follow all health and safety and food hygiene regulations, processes and procedures, maintain the upmost level of personal hygiene, wear the relevant PPE where necessary, support in the food preparation, ordering, payment and issuing of food in a professional manner, in line with company policy. You will help maintain a clean and tidy environment, ensuring customers and visitors have everything they need to enjoy their meal and experience within the food outletsYou may also be asked to work with visitors and customers during the farm park events schedule or as party host during parties. You will deliver an outstanding level of customer service, instructing customers/ visitors on the importance of health, safety and hygiene processes after having taken part in events, including washing their hands thoroughly. You will follow processes to ensure outstanding hygiene measures are maintained. You will work closely with the catering and events team to ensure a high level of animal care and ensure information is given in an accurate and timely manner, reporting any issues directly to the farm operations manager (in relation to animal care) or the communication manager (in relation to customers or visitors). Your tasks are wide-ranging and subject to change when necessary.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work in line with all Health and Safety protocols. 
  • Work in line with first aid protocols. 
  • Assist with start of day procedures relating to food outlets. 
  • Assist with end of day procedures relating to food outlets. 
  • Carry out checks throughout the day to ensure plates and cutlery collected, cleaned and are on hand ready to re use. 
  • Ensure that the café areas are kept clean and tidy and that bins are emptied 
  • Serve customers and visitors ordering food and drink in a polite and professional manner. 
  • Support, if needed with daily events throughout the day. 
  • Help prepare food for party bookings.  
  • Support, if needed by being a responsible party host. 
  • Carry out cleaning duties to reduce the risk of cross contamination. 
  • Assist in the Rainforest Coffee lounge. 
  • Take payments, using the till system. 
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to all. 
  • Work well with others. 
  • Follow all company policies and procedures. 
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. 

The day-to-day activity of the position: 

  • Assist with basic food preparation activities, including washing, peeling and cutting vegetables. 
  • Clean and sanitise all tableware and dishes. 
  • Set up dining areas according to instruction. 
  • Effectively carry out all morning and afternoon food outlet jobs, as requested and complete all required paperwork. 
  • Effectively carry out all morning and afternoon Enchanted Hamlet jobs (if directed to do so) and complete all required paperwork. 
  • Empty bins. 
  • Help in loading and unloading food from the store or catering supplier. 
  • Support with cleaning and tidying the Rainforest Café (if directed to do so) and complete all required paperwork. 
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to all. 
  • Support the upselling of drinks, side dishes and desserts. 
  • Monitor health and safety and report any issues.  
  • Monitor hygiene and cleanliness and act on any issues. 
  • Any other duties to meet the needs of the business. 

Essential requirements: 

  • Good customer service skills 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Food Hygiene level 2

Desired requirements: 

  • Customer Service qualification, level 2 (Apprenticeship) 
  • DBS checked
