Safety Manager

Permanent Part time (two days per week), including some weekends and bank holidays Matlock (Two Dales)

Your position as safety manager is to create, implement and monitor organisational safety guidelines, promoting a culture of safety throughout the Farm Park, working closely with the management team and staff to promote high levels of safe ways of working, ensuring compliance against all regulatory standards as we strive to become a world class visitor attraction that is committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of our visitors and staff. Your tasks are wide-ranging and subject to change when necessary. You will commit to the company’s core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, enjoyment, and inclusivity and will work ultimately to achieve our mission which commits you to the welfare of our animals, visitors and staff, making Matlock Farm Park a world class visitor attraction that offers accessibility for all to a wonderful day out through a wide range of interactive animal activities and playtime fun, along with providing great quality food.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead on all Health and Safety protocols, including policy, risk/risk impact assessments, reporting procedures, defect management, PAT testing and electrical management, mandatory signage, and fire protocols etc.
  • Be responsible for the specific key safety indicators duties allocated to you within the current Health and Safety policy.
  • Establish and oversee the implementation of company policies, procedures, and legal protocols with regards to health and safety. Ensuring all paperwork is up to date.
  • Work in line with all Health and Safety protocols,
  • Work in line with first aid protocols.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Consult with the senior and junior management to ensure standardisation in all departments.
  • Be the health and safety lead to safely manage the Peak District Highland Games and any other large event.
  • Diligently deal with complaints and ensure monitoring of all incidents and accidents in line with procedures
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Take responsibility for the staff under your care and ensure a high level of staff performance against their job roles.
  • Manage the disciplinary and grievance procedure for the staff you are responsible for.
  • Support senior manager activities by being duty manager, when needed.

The day-to-day activity of the position:

  • Carrying out safety risks assessments prior to starting a new project
  • Reviewing all work procedures and ensuring they meet industry safety standards
  • Preparing and filing reports for accidents and other safety breaches
  • Staying up-to-date with health, safety and environment regulations
  • Ensuring safe installation of equipment and overseeing external contractors
  • Conducting in-house training sessions on health and safety awareness
  • Tracking incident metrics and applying findings
  • Manage and deliver outstanding customer relations when dealing with complaints
  • Monitoring quality of food from outlets, café, and rainforest
  • Monitor your staff performance and standards with regards to health and safety.
  • Monitor health and safety throughout the park.
  • Monitor hygiene and cleanliness and act on any issues.
  • Any other duties to meet the needs of the business.

When, on occasions, you are asked to be duty manager:

  • Animal welfare, safety, and security.
  • Morning walk around prior to opening, identifying, and dealing with issues.
  • Oversee and manage car parking/entrance queues/staff, supporting where necessary.
  • Manage daily events (sheep ferret racing/wallaby encounter/animal handling etc.)
  • Ensure farm operational management is covered every day ensuring the park is running efficiently, including all events, kiosks, riding, parties, café, shop, play areas etc.
  • Manage and monitor end of day jobs and cleaning, toilets, bins, and litter.
  • Empty all go cart coin machines weekly.
  • Deal with all walkie-talkies and till malfunctions and maintenance.
  • Oversee locking up of the park.

Essential requirements:

  • NEBOSH/minimum 5 years in a managing health and safety role.

Desired requirements:

  • First aid at work certificate
